FAQs

If you’re unsure, just give us a call.

You can usually tell the age of the installation by the age of the Consumer Unit, if its old then most likely, you’ll need a rewire. We can discuss the age with you, or you can even send us a picture.

We do that many Rewires that we can usually tell from just a picture.

Unfortunately, yes.

It’s a dusty job, requiring the walls to be broken for the chases etc. However, our electricians do what they can to minimise mess and we will be as tidy as possible, completing a big clean at the end of the first fix (the messy bit) to ensure the mess doesn’t spread.

Yes, furniture will need to be moved.

Our electricians will let you know what and when, and we can often move things around ourselves if required.

We work with you to minimise the disruption.

It depends.

If you have a crawl space under the ground floor, we won’t need to lift any floors on the ground floor. We can usually work around tiled bathroom floors and we will do our best to avoid this.

In some cases, however, it is necessary. This will be determined before we start any work.

It’s a good idea yes. We will make noise and usually start at around 8am, depending on your locality to us.

We also usually bring a few vans with us, so if parking is an issue on your street, then it may be worth letting people know so we don’t upset anyone!

It’s always best to rewire before you move in, if possible.

If the house is empty, then it makes our job much easier. Before you’re due to decorate is also a great time, so we’re not ruining any new decor. However, we know this isn’t always possible.

You’re required to provide an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) to fulfil your responsibilities as a landlord and usually for insurance companies or mortgage lenders.

We can provide these upon request and dependant on the outcome of the report, your property may need to be rewired. We can work with you and your tenant to ensure everyone is happy.

We know there are lots of electricians out there and it can be difficult to choose. Sometimes, the temptation is to go with the cheapest quote, which is understandable.

While we may not always be the cheapest quote you receive, we are always competitive and if you do receive a much cheaper quote, we would warn you to be wary. The cheapest can often mean you’re getting substandard service, and you will likely not receive an EIC (Electrical Installation Certificate) upon completion of the works.

This can mean that the installer either doesn’t trust their work, or simply does not have the qualifications to complete one, and so may not necessarily be completing the works to a safe, satisfactory standard.

There is sometimes a sticker on the consumer unit/ fusebox informing you when it was installed.

If this isn’t present, it can be more difficult to tell without looking at the wiring ourselves. If you would like you can send us a picture of your fusebox and it could give us a good idea. Alternatively, we can do a site visit, take a look and even complete an EICR if you would like to give you a detailed report on the condition of your wiring and fixed installation.

We aim to start at 8am each morning. We realise this sometimes isn’t ideal for every customer, so we are flexible as possible to work around you.

Communication is paramount for us, so we will always let you know of any plans or changes to it.

The Process

Safeguard

Dust sheets are used to protect customers possessions, along with floor and carpet protection where required.

Planning

We walk-through the job, ensuring all new and existing locations are marked out, along with routes, chases and the all important consumer unit.

Starting Work

Any carpets and floorboards that need lifting are lifted and we get in the attic to move any insulation that’s required.

The Heavy Works

A large cutting machine is used to create channels for the cables to sit perfectly within. New back-boxes are chopped in and joists drilled, ready for wiring.

Clean-up

A quick clean up at this stage helps keep on top of the dust and keeps the site clear and safe to work in.

Wiring

Our electricians now get to work installing your new wiring in preparation for your new sockets, lights, smoke alarms, etc.

Making Good

Our team will come in to tidy up all the chases and all floorboards go back down.

Second Fix

Our electricians now come in to complete final terminations, connecting all socket outlets and lights.

The Big Tidy

We now complete a big tidy up, get rid of all rubbish, remove any protectors and dust sheets and test all your new circuits as we go, ensuring everything is operating as it should and is all satisfactory.

The Handover

We leave you in peace! Another job walk-through is completed with the customer to ensure satisfaction. Your test certificate will follow.
